Eight at the Gate
2018 Chardonnay

Lightly oaked. The varietal characters maintained in the wine have created an approachable easy drinking style. There is richness but in balance with structure. Complex and very drinkable.

Colour: Pale Straw

Aroma: White peach with zesty citrus notes

Palate: Subtle stone fruit, citrus with flinty notes. Clean and crisp with a dry finish

A reserved style, soft with oak and fruit and has some great acidity

Vintage: 2018

Grape Variety: Chardonnay

Wine Analysis:  Alc/Vol 12.7%, Acidity 5.3 g/L, pH 3.37, RS <0.5g/150ml glass

Vinification: Wild ferment in stainless with minimal French oak treatment

Vintage Conditions: In 2018, good winter rainfall and a warm October led to strong canopy growth and good fruit set. A frost event in November was a little scary and reduced yields in some areas. Warm and dry January/February weather enabled the fruit to intensify in flavour whilst retaining wonderfully fresh, natural acidity.
