We were both born on the Limestone Coast, and even after living in other parts of Australia and around the world, we chose to return to this region. It shaped our childhood, our values and our love for creating family wines. Coonawarra has always felt like the place we belong.

Chardonnay Lodge has been part of our lives for as long as we can remember. When it opened in 1984, it quickly became a favourite place for our family. We came here for dinners, first dates, weddings and many moments that stayed with us. When we had the chance to make this well loved Coonawarra landmark our Cellar Door, we knew it was the right step.

After a long break, the Lodge reopened under the care of its new owners, Margaret and Craig Bell. They are committed to giving both locals and visitors a warm and memorable experience. Today, Chardonnay Lodge is home to Eight at the Gate’s Cellar Door, along with spaces for functions, conferences and a restaurant that celebrates the best of the region.

The Lodge sits in the heart of Coonawarra, surrounded by vineyards. Its striking building, wide lawns and established gardens create a calm and welcoming place to relax and enjoy the landscape. While you are here, you can explore our White Wine, Red Wine, Rosé Wine and Sparkling Wine, each offering a different expression of our family wines.
